How it works for you

How lenders verify self employed income

No pay stub does not mean no proof. These are what lenders usually ask for.

01

Notice of Assessment

Your CRA Notice of Assessment from the last year or two is the most common proof of income.

02

Tax returns

Your full return shows the whole picture, including business income and expenses.

03

Bank statements

A few months of statements showing regular deposits help back up what you earn.

04

Time in business

The longer you have been self employed, the more comfortable lenders are. Two years is a common benchmark.

Straight talk

The honest part: lenders usually go by the income on your tax return, not your gross sales. If you write off a lot of expenses, your approved income may look lower than what you actually take home.

That does not stop a deal. It just means we plan around it, and sometimes a truck or van for the business can be structured differently. We will tell you what fits.

Questions

What people in your spot usually ask.

Can I get a car loan if I am self employed?

Yes. Lenders approve self employed borrowers regularly, usually based on your Notice of Assessment, tax returns and bank statements.

What documents do I need?

Most lenders ask for your recent Notice of Assessment, and sometimes your tax returns and a few months of bank statements.

I have only been self employed a short time. Can I still apply?

Yes. Less time in business can limit options, but prior work history in the same field and strong bank deposits can help.

Can I finance a work truck or van?

Yes. Work vehicles are a common request from self employed buyers, and we can source and finance them.

Your key is closer than you think.

Two taps and a phone number. We’ll take it from there.
